President’s Report
honestly, “I don’t have a stake in this
outcome—but I do care about whether
it works.”
That posture matters. It allows leaders, labor, administrators, and elected
of昀椀cials to speak candidly about constraints, unintended consequences,
and second-order effects. It creates
space for solutions that are technically
sound, 昀椀scally responsible, and publicly defensible—even if they are not politically easy.
In debates like property tax reform, trust is the currency that
allows hard truths to be heard. Without it, every concern is dismissed as self-interest and every warning as obstruction.
A Moment for
Serious Governance
Property tax reform is not inherently good or bad. It is conse-
5
quential. It deserves rigorous modeling,
transparent assumptions, and honest
engagement with those responsible for
delivering essential services.
For 昀椀re districts, local governments,
and the communities they serve, the
goal should not be to “win” the debate—
but to ensure that whatever changes
are made preserve public safety, 昀椀scal stability, and long-term obligations.
These are precisely the moments when
trusted counselors matter most—when decisions are shaped
not by partisanship, but by competence, integrity, and a shared
responsibility to the public.
If Florida gets this right, it will be because the conversation
stayed grounded in facts, trust, and an understanding that some
systems—especially those that save lives—require stability as
much as reform.
